Nov 2nd, 2010 Haiti Trip
Crossroads Community Church Work Trip
Nov 2, 2010 - Nov 10, 2010
Taking a trip to Haiti is a tremendous opportunity, and for many a life-changing experience. New Life for Haiti is involved in projects that truly make life better in Haitian communities. However, a big part of why we encourage you to come is simply because it gives you new perspectives on so many things in life. May the Lord bless you as you consider coming to Haiti with us on this trip.
Trip Purpose
This trip is for people from Crossroads Community Church. It was originally scheduled for March 2-9, but has been rescheduled to November due to the earthquake. Last year Crossroads painted the inside of the church in the village of Moron. On this trip, the team will be painting the outside of the church, and possibly a second project as well.
Kinds of Work
The painting work done by this team will probably be just like any typical house painting work using ladders, buckets, and brushes as well as a power sprayer. Some of the painting work may require climbing on scaffolding. Getting to Moron involves a half hour truck ride over about 8 miles of very rough road. The trip is open to both men and women.
Team Leader
The Team Leader for this trip will be Eddie Hammond. Eddie is the pastor of Crossroads Community Church in Sullivan, Indiana. He has been to Haiti three times with New Life for Haiti. He loves to witness God at work in the team members as they are Jesus to the Haitian people, especially the children and elderly. Eddie likes to try and make everything fun. He likes to laugh and mess with people's heads...it is his gift. He has been on and led various other mission trips to Russia and Ukraine, so the fear factor is a little lower when you ask this question, “Is it safe to follow this man?” Come along...you be the judge! You can contact Eddie at xxroads50@yahoo.com.
Trip Dates
The team will depart for Haiti on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010, and arrive back in the Midwest on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010.
Team Size
The team is limited to eight people. Applicants from Crossroads Community Church in Sullivan, Indiana will be given first consideration when applying to be a part of this team.
Trip Cost
The total cost of this trip will be between $1200 and $1600. The cost of this trip is estimated to be around $1200 if flying out of Chicago. If departing from another airport, this price will vary. You will also be responsible for covering the cost of meals en route, your overnight lodging in Port-au-Prince, souvenirs, and tips for the house staff in Marfranc. These costs, typically around $200, are not included in the estimated $1200 cost. You should plan on carrying cash in this amount with you on the trip to cover these additional expenses. If you need to raise money for your trip, some tips for doing that are included in the Trip Packet you will receive after you submit your application and are accepted for the trip.
Deposit
A $100 deposit will be due 2 weeks after your application is accepted.
Balance Due Sep 29, 2010
You will need to have the remaining balance of your travel funds in to NLH 6 weeks before your trip departure date. This is so that we may purchase your airline ticket. Airline tickets will be purchased by our NLH Travel Coordinator (we do this so that everyone ends up on the proper flights together).
Application Deadline
All applications must be received by Nov 2, 2010.
Are you under 18?
