Run Electrical Wiring in Missionary House and Depot
Aug 5, 2008 - Aug 12, 2008
Taking a trip to Haiti is a tremendous opportunity, and for many a life-changing experience. New Life for Haiti is involved in projects that truly make life better in Haitian communities. However, a big part of why we encourage you to come is simply because it gives you new perspectives on so many things in life. Below you will find information about this past trip. May the Lord bless you as you read about what we did on this trip, and consider coming to Haiti with us on a future trip.
Accomplishments
This last-minute work team helped prepare the staff and work team's house in the village of Marfranc for electricity. They also ran the electrical wiring to the depot and continued welding the security bars to cover the openings in the house. Completion on the staff and guest house will allow New Life for Haiti to establish a permanent presence in Marfranc and allow NLH staff to strengthen their ties with the residents of the village.
Team Leader
The Team Leader for this trip was Alex Lopezalles. Alex is training to become a pastor at LifeSpring Community Church. He has been to Haiti on a previous trip. You can contact Alex at .

The Final Day Of Our Stay

Bon Jour Greeting from Haiti:
Today is the final day of our stay here. I think I speak for all of us in saying we are very sad our time has come to an end!
Today for the most part was a hard day for all of us, however we had some huge blessings at the end. The day started out with Jeff and I both being pretty sick. It was decided I would stay behind, but Jeff wanted to go...I will let Jeff say what happened from there LOL. We had planned that the guys would go to the work site and work till noon, we would pack them some snacks and that would get them through till they got home to eat lunch. Once they got home at noon we were planning on going to do some shopping and go the the local orphanage to hand out flip-flops and tooth brushes. HOWEVER, God had a different time table then we did. The guys went to pull out to leave and Joline and I noticed the front tire was flat on the truck, so they had to pull back in and change the tire. They did manage to get all the wiring done in the new house PRAISE GOD! However, Joline and I were getting a little more concerned by the minute.. So to make a long story short they guys ended up with two more flat tires on the way home. They never got home till around three, and Jeff is still really under the weather.

We did manage to get to the Center of Hope, this is a hospital set up to take care of women and babies. The work they do is awesome, they house women who are at high risk, they teach mothers how to love and care for their babies, and just do general women's heath and pregnancy check ups. This hospital also has a unit for children with Kwashiorkor. this is severe malnutrition, not just how we know the dieses, it goes beyond that. Kwashiorkor is malnutrition and the total lack of protein, so it is not just giving them food it is giving them proteins and the foods they need. I had a really hard time going through this unit. Last week they lost two babies, and the way some of these babies looked made me wonder if they would leave the hospital alive. The center of hope is run by a Catholic Nun who also runs the gift shop we went to. She opened the shop for us so we could buy some things to take home with us. I am a true shopper so I wanted to buy one of everything, but I did manage to keep my spending under control, It was a great feeling to shop and know you are also changing lives at the same time.

We next went to a local orphanage down the street from the Center of Hope. This was also an awesome experience. The children were lined up and waiting for us when we entered. They sang songs for us in English. This really touched my heart. They sang some super great songs for us but for some reason when they sang the song “I'm Standing in The need Of Prayer”. I can cry very easily, so when the kids where singing this is really just touched my heart and the tears started to flow. This little children did even get it, they really do need our prayers, but they were just as happy as happy could be. We have so much and we pray for so much more, wow really hits you between the eyes. This is why Steve and Joline do what they, and why we come down to help them. I believe Alex and Josh were able to video tape this so I pray they can get it on the web sight for everyone to see. It was just another awesome experience.

I guess in closing I would say this has been an awesome week of learning, helping and sharing. If you have never been to Haiti you must put that on your list of things to do. I have had the privilege to meet four very neat Christian men, and get to know them, and spend time with two very amazing people, Steve and Joline Moore. Please take every chance to pray for them and the work they do and please if you are not already supporting this ministry give serious thought to how generous you can be with your time and your talents.
Thanks for time, and prayers

Hello everyone, today is Sunday and which means it's our day of rest, church and fun. We started by going to church in Marfranc dressed in our Sunday finest we headed down the road all 7 of us packed inside, in an effort to stay clean and dry. When we arrived we were greeted by Pastor Plaisir and had a chance to see some of the kids in their Sunday school class. Pastor Plaisir preached something very familiar with our hearts which Steve translated for us. He started by telling us that victory in Christ Jesus came from and was a transformed life and heart in my head I could hear Pastor Fran say “Preach it Brother”. Before and after the sermon we all sang together and it was amazing, the church must of glowed with the awesome sound of all the voices. It really was amazing to hear the whole church young and old sing. After church we stayed around and met many of the people that come to Pastor Plaisir's church and had lunch with him. The children of the church are awesome, they loved getting their picture taken and seeing themselves on the camera. Jeff on our team has fallen in love with one of the kids here named Widley that he has met on past trips. As soon as Jeff found Widley it was instant laughing and tickling that followed. Widley's grandmother gave the Moore's a live chicken as a gift. The gift of the chicken was a very precious gift in a place where most kids may only eat once a day. I can't express in words how grateful the people of Marfranc are for what were doing.

After lunch we headed back to the house tap tap style in the back of the truck chicken in hand literally Josh held it all the way back, to change and head to the beach. Yeaaaa! The beach was a blast we all played in the water and explored the cave and the sunken ship. The Beach here is as pretty and perfect as any you've ever seen on any postcard. Our team really enjoyed a day of rest and play before heading out to the job site Monday to finish the electrical work in the team house.

It was such a reward to see and hear from the people here that we're making a difference and that what we do matters, I'm sure our entire team will take that home and give us hope to continue the work that still needs to be done.
The Andrew Trip

As many of you may or may not know this trip came about quite suddenly for me. My wife and I have spent considerable amounts of time in prayer about Haiti. We were not sure if a trip this year was going to happen or not. Then an e-mail from the Moore's came to me about this guy named Andrew who was an electrician and they wanted a few people to come with him so he didn't have to fly and travel by himself. After praying and feeling God say yes, here I sit. In Haiti blogging.
The entire purpose for this trip is to get the house wired and ready for bulbs and a power supply so that when the Moore's return in October they can move in. Between Steve and Andrew telling us what needs to be done, Alex, Jeff, Leslie, and myself are getting lots of work done. The house will be wired and ready to go on Monday our last day on the job. Plus we got a lot more of the security bars for the windows cut and ready to be welded together.

Today after we finished working we went down to the river and “cleaned” up( we went for a swim). I think tomorrow we are going to visit an orphanage after church and lunch. That will be a lot of fun since we are hoping to pass out some sandals that Andrew's wife bought and sent with him, so that will be exciting.
I am so thankful that God said yes and let me come back to Haiti.
Good Night and God Bless

The Project Progress

Andrew Van Tassel
Hello to all of you, my name is Andrew. I am writing tonight in the on going blog to inform you of are progress and my thoughts thus far. GOD is so awesome how he continually works things out. This team originally start with the need for an electrician to help Steve design the electrical portion of the house. So after my wife and I discussed it we decided to trust God and I signed up to be lead electrician for the project with many emails to follow between Pastor Fran leman and our Missionaries Steve and Joline Moore. As the time got closer I asked my brother in Christ Alex to join me and he agreed, I believe his word were “sure I will be your apprentice” mean while Joline sent out a mass email for any other electricians to come out during this time also to aid and assist. God is amazing he provided two other Gentlemen One also having an electrical Background. So the four of us all met in the southern suburbs and flew to Miami fL to meet up with our fifth person going on this trip, Leslie Stauffer. what a wonderful lady with a heart for Our great God. and missions. I am still... I guess shocked and amazed at the life styles here in Haiti. They have so little but yet they can accomplish such great amounts in all aspects of their lives. I have never been a big fan of foundations that you send in a donation to support a kid or origination, I am glad that God has brought Haiti back in my Life I enjoy giving spiritually, financial and physically to this organization. I feel that NLH is structure the in a way that is pleasing to God and benefits the people of Haiti very well.
The Project Progress
we arrived on Wednesday afternoon, what a blast to experience the airline industry in Haiti.
On Thursday morning we decided that start time to get out of bed for the week stay was going to be 6:00 am with breakfast to start at 7: 00 and leave the house by 8;00 am for mar-franc.
Thursday was great I about lost my head 3 or 4 times from low wires in the streets and branches along the way to mar-franc... learned my lesson real quick, be on the look out!!!!!!! Once we made it to the Moore's New House we immediately start to check out what needed to be done. we all pitched in and cleaned the floors while I started to lay out the pre marked plastic pipe runs in their corresponding locations. then the feeling of working on the rail roads, back in the days , kicked in while we start to chip little trenches in the walls where the pipe was to be installed in the walls.
That afternoon we ran out of supplies so we started to pull wire in the ceiling while Jeff was finishing installing the panel on the wall. see pictures below

By the time we finished pulling the front room ceiling it was time to clean up and head back. Wow what a great day
It was so cool to watch the Haitians standing and sitting around just socking up all the different ways of doing things and eagerly waiting to jump in and help if a chance was given to them.
Friday the morning started out the same with breakfast and loading up the truck to head out with the new chop saw hoping it was put back to gather the right way.
The day went on as usual with us being able to install all the pipe runs in the house except for 1 room which we will tack care of to marrow and then hopefully get the hole house pulled and ready for the final phase.
Thank to all of you for your prayers and support that is making all of this possible God Bless you All
Love in Christ Andrew Van Tassel

What a great day! I had a great early morning run (very hilly!). Breakfast was good. We headed for Marfranc around 8 am. The ride is sooo bumpy, but very scenic. We arrived at the new house, and began wiring the house. We installed the breaker box, installed conduit in the walls, and pulled wire. The fellowship was great. Some of us sang. Some of the Haitian workers spoke to me about Jesus and the singing they participated in at church. The children are always so great to kid around with. Some of them learned how to say “I love you” in sign language. Pastor Plaisir showed up, and I had a great talk with him, along with the rest of us. I wish I knew more Creole. We need more parts, so tomorrow we'll have to get supplies. Andrew is a great electrician, Josh and Alex are the greatest help. Leslie and Joline swept up for us. It was a great day for us, fellowship and job progress. The house is looking good. A couple of days, we should have it wired.

We came back to the house and Vilex, the pastor's son, came to visit. I love speaking with him. He brought Joline some apples. Vilex has a great attitude. Later we had a great supper. We talked for a while after. Andrew and Alex put together a new chop saw for Steve.

They're here!!!!!
Just wanted everyone to know that the group arrived on time and on the right day and are enjoying their first evening in Haiti. We are just so excited that they arrived on schedule, since the last 2 groups missed their Jeremie flight and didn't arrive until the next day and actually lost a day of their trip! So, we are excited to have everyone here with us this evening.
Four of their bags didn't arrive, but everyone has plenty of clothes to wear, so all is well! The chop saw that was donated by Kim & Karen Gerber and Brian & Leslie Zurita.....didn't arrive, so we will punt with what will be started tomorrow. But we were assured by Tortug Air that it will come tomorrow and we'll be ready to go! We are looking forward to getting a lot done and know that we will have a great time together!
We are just glad they are here!!!!
Look for more news to come in the next few days....
Blessings,
Joline
